Chemical Plant - Primary Containment Microbial Chemical Wast Water Treatment Facility Re-lining of existing hypalon (HDPE) liner - LaPorte, Texas.
Installation Bulletin
BACKGROUND
The existing Hypalon liner at this large chemical plant showed major signs of wear. Long split seams and gaps were allowing seepage into the underlying sub-base. The only options available were, either remove and dispose of the existing liner, a major expense, or completely resurface the Hypalon liner using some type of coating system. Because of the limited down time available, ES-4500 DLX polyurea spray was chosen.
INSTALLATION
Approximately 17,000 square feet of contact surface area was water blasted to remove contaminants.
The large open gaps and seams were covered with geo-textile membrane.
The entire surface area of the Hypalon liner was primed with ES-3000 (IsoPrime) at a wet film thickness of approximately 5 mils and allowed to cure before installation of the coating system.
The Hypalon liner was spray coated with ES-4500 DLX at an average film thickness of 60 mils, using a plural component, high-pressure heated pump system. Spray pressure was 3000 psi and material was heated to 165°F.
Re-opened to operation 3 hours after application.
