Three Man Crew Installing ES-2350 Sub-Zero Polyurea

 BACKGROUND:
  • Contractor contacted Elastomer Specialties, Inc. regarding their ES-2350 SUB-ZERO Polyurea joint sealant.
  • The contractor needed and was unable to find a heated delivery system. Elastomer Specialties maintains a Subzero rental unit at all times and was able to assist the contractor by providing both the polyurea joint fill material and the equipment for installation.
  • The project size was approximately 15,000 linear feet of new construction joints
  • Installation temperature was below 0° F.
 MATERIAL:
  • Material specified: ES-2350 SubZero a hybrid, 1:1 ratio polyurea specifically developed for concrete crack and control joint sealing on indoor, cold storage, warehouse facilities.
  • Material, cures in approximately one hour from time of installation and develops a shore A hardness of 92-95.
  • While the product can be hand mixed, on all large projects manufacture recommends that the material be installed using a heated, plural component pump system such as the “Condor” Sub-Zero, manufactured by Elastomer Specialties, Inc.
 INSTALLATION:
  • This project located in Enid, Oklahoma was completed in the fall of 2002, and took approximately 3-4 weeks to complete.
  • The contractor, Gleason Contractors out of North Dakota was responsible for the new facility construction as well as the joint filling.
  • Installation procedure was the same as all new construction joint sealing.
    • First the joints were re-saw cut to clean out all dirt, concrete dust and debris.
    • The joints were vacuumed prior to installing the ES-2350 Sub-Zero polyurea joint fill.
  • Material was installed full depth of the joint.
  • Once installed, material was sliced off flush with the concrete surface so as to provide a smooth joint transition for the forklift traffic.
